Acute gastritis
Description
The Greek word Gastritis means inflammation of the gastric mucosa. In acute gastritis, this inflammation due to an acute injury to the mucous membrane – for example, caused by excessive drinking, certain medications or food poisoning. And psychological factors and situations that mean for the body stress may be the cause of acute gastritis. Examples include major surgery, burns or circulatory shock.
If the inflamed gastric mucosa over a longer period, it is a chronic gastritis.
Lesioned protective film
The gastric mucosa lines the inside of the body such as a protective film. It prevents the aggressive attack digestive juices of the stomach wall: Without gastric mucosa which would not only the food but also the cells of the stomach to “digest”.
