CystitisUrinary tract infections, cystitis or bladder infection also called the upper and the lower urinary tract affect, with the latter representing the urinary tract infections in the classical sense. At the lower urinary tract includes the urethra and the bladder. Depending on which organ is affected by the infection, we also speak of urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) or cystitis (inflammation of the bladder). At the upper urinary tract are the two ureters and kidneys. An inflammation of the renal pelvis, which is caused by an ascending infection from the lower urinary tract is called pyelonephritis. The lower urinary tract infection is the commonest form, 95% of all diseases affecting women. They suffer due to the short urethra from urinary tract infections more frequently than men.

Most common cause of urinary tract infections, the spread of bacteria from the intestine to the bladder is. It can also be the trigger other pathogens. The typical bladder infection is especially evident in frequent urination and burning during urination.

A lower urinary tract infection can be treated well and usually heals without consequence.
