Each unadulterated food is like a symphony of coordinated components. It gives us in addition to active ingredients, stored solar energy and well-being. The mechanistically-oriented science is always happy to appear as they would understand the nature quite well. Only a few parts per thousand are examined for all the important body substances. It involved the role of hormones, enzymes, the intestinal bacteria and the mental and sensory control is virtually unexplored. Preventive medicine speak of “oxidative stress” afflicting the modern man of wealth and that represents a serious threat to overall fitness and health.
To counteract the free radicals must be trapped and rendered harmless. This is what the anti-oxidants, they effectively prevent the “rusting of the body cells.”
The measurement of the antioxidant potential is therefore the determination of the protective effect of a vitamin or food. Worldwide, this measurement is preferably carried out by the TEAC method (or similar measuring method). It is simple and cheap – but possibly outdated. Because this method did a whole generation of scientists, would be the most effective antioxidant vitamins. Perhaps the biggest mistake of nutritional science.
The research results of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center under the direction of Professor Prior brought a completely different result: “The antioxidant power of most flavonoids (bioactive plant compounds) is much stronger than the effect of vitamin A (beta carotene), E and C . ” The team led by Professor Prior has developed a new method to detect the antioxidant power of bioactive substances (ORAC). This is the traditional test method that is incomplete.
Bioactive plant compounds have become the new stars of preventive health care has become. The new ORAC measurement methods rehabilitated nature. It proves, what did our great natural healers have always been: the most effective antioxidants are not vitamins, but the red and blue berries and fruits! The darker and more intense the color, the better the protective effect.
These health treasures our ancestors knew and used. Father Kneipp recommended a good reason to prefer any elderberry bush hat. Elderberries are not only healthy, but together with magnesium and athletes almost the ideal supplement to counteract the anti-oxidative stress meet. Other blue berries are a veritable gift of nature. There are over 10,000 different bioactive substances. The most important bioactive substances:

Carotenoids
They stimulate the immune system, prevent cancer and are considered important antioxidants. Carotenoids are divided into lycopene, lutein, alpha-and beta-carotene. They are found in orange fruits and vegetables, tomatoes and grapefruit / grapefruit.

Terpenes
